From May - September, 2019, I made a series of portraits starting with pencil on paper. These were accompanied by freeform monotype printmaking processes. As an Art teacher and as a nanny at the time, I felt inspired and grateful for the energy I received those days from the children I worked with. I spent mornings and afternoons in the sun, surrounded by colorful toys, jelly shoes, glitter, paint, slides, swings, bubbles, and sparkling water from fountains at community splash grounds. In these drawings/collages/prints, I sought to encapsulate a playful, loving, nurturing, and promising energy along with the beauty and profundity within human connections in all their forms. I sought to honor my amazing friends, and to celebrate some of the beautiful moments I had been experiencing that late spring and early summer with regard to my relationships with people in my life in Philly, old and new.
